Taiwan enters the era of Carbon pricing from 2025!

Taiwan will implement a carbon fee program starting January 1, 2025, charging up to NT$300 (US$9.31) per metric ton of carbon emissions for the biggest carbon emitters.

This rate will initially apply to companies emitting over 25,000 metric tons annually. Companies meeting specific emission reduction targets may qualify for preferential rates of NT$50/tCO2 and NT$100/tCO2.

The year 2025 will be a trial year for large emitters to report their 2024 emissions without payment, and fees will be collected starting in 2026 based on 2025 emissions. The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) expects around 500 emitters to meet the threshold for paying the carbon fee.
